Rugby ATL’s “404” team completes inaugural exhibition season
To help identify new talent, to develop players and to create a pathway to Major League Rugby, Rugby ATL partnered with the Atlantic Premiership Rugby (ARP) to allow a new team to participate in exhibition matches in the Fall 2019 ARP season.
The 404 (named after an Atlanta area code), completed 8 games against teams from NYAC, Mystic River, Old Blue and Life Men’s Rugby Club.
Players for the team were sourced via identification camps across the country as well as pulled from local clubs including Atlanta Renegades, Atlanta Old White and Charlotte. In addition to strong representation from Georgia, the team had geographic representation from as far away as Colorado, Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina, Louisiana and Florida.
Valenese Malifa, Head Coach of the 404 / Assistant Coach of the Rugby ATL MLR team, was delighted with the inaugural campaign and says, “While the team performed well going 7 and 1 across the full exhibition season, what was most encouraging was to see the growth of the players during the season and across such a wide variety of on and off field areas. A big thank you to the ARP for allowing these players and this team an opportunity to grow.”
Players interested in pursuing opportunities with the team should reach out to Recruiting@rugbyatl.rugby or submit their details via our Recruitment form.
