Rugby ATL Roster to travel to Washington to play Old Glory on Sunday, march 8th
Atlanta, Ga (March 6th, 2020). General Manager and Head Coach, Scott Lawrence, has announced his roster to take on fellow Eastern Conference rivals, Old Glory DC, in Washington DC on Sunday 6 pm EST.
The front row combination fielded in the first match of the season returns with #1 Chance Wenglewski and #3 Duane Aholelei propping up the omnipotent #2 Alex Maughan.
#4 Johan Momsen and #5 Stefan Willemse pair up in the second-row again after strong performances in the 18 -28 loss to Toronto Arrows last week. #7 Matt Heaton and #8 Ross Deacon provide additional stability at the back of the scrum and will be joined by #6 Viliami Helu.
Coach Lawrence has kept both his half-back and center pairings unchanged but makes two changes in the back three with last week’s full-back, Zander Van Schalkwyk moving to #14 and #15 Martini Talapusi taking over the starting full-back position. #11 Harley Davidson switches sides to complete the trio.
#16 Amro Gouda, Stewart Title’s Ambassador #20 Jason Damm, and #23 Bill FukoFuka are back onto the 23 man bench after being rested against Toronto.
The Old Glory DC team will be back in front of their home crowd for the first time in several weeks after completing a two-game sweep of Texas with a 22 – 13 win over the Houston Sabercats and a 28 – 19 win over the Austin Gilgronis. These results have moved them up to 13 points and #3 position in the Eastern Conference standings – 3 points in front of Rugby ATL.
This success has not escaped notice in Atlanta. ” Old Glory has really come out of the blocks quickly in their first season and showed themselves to be a team that finds ways to win,” said Coach Lawrence.
Despite the recent wins and overall 3 – 1 record, Old Glory DC are approaching this match with some degree of caution. “We know they have a strong set-piece, they enjoy set piece, and defensively, they are pretty solid,” Old Glory DC Head Coach, Andrew Douglas said. “They are improving all the time as well. They are a pretty disciplined team, and they work hard for each other, so it’s going to be a tough one. They are a young team that is doing really well. We’re expecting a big challenge from Atlanta.”
The match will be aired on CBSSN at 6 pm EST on Sunday, March 8th.
